I AM PERSUADED THAT HE IS ABLE:

TO RECEIVE THE GLORY BY US (part 1)

II Corinthians 1:18
But as God is true, our word toward you was not yea and nay. 19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yea and nay, but in him was yea. 20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

God is true! Everything in this verse, and everything in the Bible is centered and contingent in this fact. We will understand in these verses why we have to start with this reminder. Let me just say it again. God is true. We need reminded of this because we have so many people we will meet in our life that are not true. We will come across many statements and promises made to us over the years that are not true. We will buy products from companies that have made certain claims that turn out not be true. We have people that tell us they will pray for us that don’t. We have family that will tell us they will always love us, but things change. People have had a husband or wife that promised to always be faithful, but we’re not. In fact, it can get to the point that many of us feel that there is nothing and no one left to fully be able to trust and count on. But God is true.

As Paul is writing to the church at Corinth, he lets them know that they can trust what he has claimed about the Lord. Paul is saying that there is no variableness with God. It is not “yea and nay” with God. Verse nineteen says it is only “yea” with God. It is not sometimes yes, and sometimes no with God. It is not up and down, over and under, or in and out with God. It may be that way with people, friends, and possibly even family; but it is not that way with God. God is not trendy. God is true. God is not controlled by popularity. God is confirmed by His promises. Because God is true, and because God’s Word is true, everything God has promised is “yea”, not “nay”. It is yes, not no.

We do not have to worry that God might change His mind. We do not have to worry that things with God might be different next week than they are right now. We do not have to worry that God might say “yes” to a promise today, and “no” to the same promise tomorrow. Things change, and people change, “but God is true”.
