Bible reading: Revelation 6
“15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; 16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: 17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?”
Chapter 6 is not one of the happiest chapters of the Bible, but there are a few truths that we can take away from this chapter. John is being shown what is called the seals, events of what is going to happen during the Tribulation. During this time, the six seals reveal war, hunger, darkness, death, disaster, and many that are martyred. Matthew 24:4-31, Jesus prophecies this as “The Day of the Lord,” the purpose is to unbelievers for their sin. And Revelation 6:15-17, shows that ALL men of every class will recognize that there is a God. Now you may be thinking what I am thinking, wow, Revelation 6 is a wonderful way to start my Monday! But there a some good things we can take away from this.
First of all, let’s look at this a little different. Unfortunately, the seals are going to be very awful and they are going to happened. Instead, let’s look at what’s not there. There is a group not mentioned in this chapter, and really till after the Tribulation, the church. Those of us that accepted Christ during the age of Grace, before the Tribulation. According to 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, we believe that Christ will rapture or “snatch” His church from the earth before this awful time of Tribulation. This ought to be comforting to us.
Secondly, while we do not have to experience this as redeemed children of God, this ought to motivate us in our witness. We don’t know, no matter how hard people try, when the Tribulation will come. We do know that today we have the opportunity now to share the gospel with others! Now I wouldn’t really use Revelation 6 while telling the Gospel, but this chapter is a reminder to us share the gospel. The fact that God gives man a chance to be saved before a time of Tribulation, is such a blessing!
