I AM PERSUADED THAT HE IS ABLE:
TO REWARD YOUR FAITH (part 3)
Matthew 9:27-31
And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, Thou Son of David, have mercy on us. 28 And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord. 29 Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you. 30 And their eyes were opened……
We have discussed the DILEMMA, DETERMINATION, and the DESPERATION of these two men. Despite all their difficulties, their faith was amazing. Jesus was the focus of their faith. Why was their faith so stable?
THEIR DOCTRINE
These men referred to Jesus by saying, “thou son of David”. Our faith starts in believing who Jesus really is. This term “son of David” was a New Testament word.
* Matthew 1:1 The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
* Matthew 1:19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily. But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
* John 7:42 Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?
These men believed that Jesus was the Messiah, the very Son of God. They may have been blind, but they could see much more than the rest of the crowd that day. Hopefully as you read this, you believe that Jesus is God. Hopefully Jesus is the object of your faith. If we are aware of who Jesus is and what Jesus can do, how could we ever doubt Him. Our faith should be stable because the object of our faith is stable. Jesus does not change. Jesus says in verse twenty-eight:
* “Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this?”
Get your doctrine right, and your faith will be strong. These men knew who Jesus was, and they believed that He could do anything, so it did not matter what happened or who said what, they were getting to Him. Let’s ask the Lord to give us that kind of faith today!
