I AM PERSUADED THAT HE IS ABLE:
TO FELLOWSHIP WITH ME
I John 1:3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. 4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
It is a wonderful thing when we have good, Godly fellowship with our brothers and sisters in Christ. This word fellowship in this verse means “partnership”. That is what we have in common, it’s Christ. According to this verse, all the Biblical principles we have been taught, and truth we have heard, is what makes the fellowship possible.
But we have a great truth given in this verse. Yes, it is great to be able to fellowship with others because of Christ, but we have something even better. WE CAN FELLOWSHIP WITH CHRIST! “Truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with His son, Jesus Christ”. You see, there are times when there is not a Christian brother or sister in Christ immediately available. We all have times when we are alone, and maybe even lonely. My own dad has had to adjust to life without my mother since she went to Heaven. It has, I am sure, been even more difficult than I would ever know. Not having companionship and company like they had for almost 50 years is a hard thing. Loneliness can set in. Yes, there are still many of us that are around and care, but it is very different. During these difficult times, what a blessing that my dad can have wonderful fellowship, even when no one is around. He can fellowship with Christ.
Verse four gives us a beautiful picture. Because of the promise that we can have fellowship with God the Father and God the Son, “your joy may be full”. There should be no lack of joy, just because there is lack of company. There should be no lack of fellowship, just because there is a lack of a person. The Lord can fill that need. Our joy should be full just because of the privilege we have to fellowship with God anytime we want to. He is always available. He will never leave or forsake us. He will never die. He will never sleep. He will fellowship with you at three in the afternoon or three in the morning. That is “true” fellowship. There is nothing put on or fake with God.
Enjoy any opportunity to fellowship with other believers, but make sure we take full advantage of the privilege to fellowship with God. He is the only constant in our life. We might as well get close and stay close now!
