Isaiah 11:1 And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: 2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;

Verse one prophesies that Jesus would come through the family line of “Jesse”. Of course, King David was Jesse’s son. Through this family line our Savior, Jesus Christ, would come. Verse two describes Jesus. We are told that the spirit of the Lord would rest upon Him. That is exciting to me because when Jesus ascended back to Heaven, after His ministry here on earth, He gave us the Holy Spirit to indwell us. In the Old Testament the Spirit of the Lord came upon a believer, in the New Testament after Jesus rose from the grave, the Spirit of the Lord comes in us. Before Christ, the Spirit visited man. After Christ, the Spirit dwells in man. So dear friend, if you are saved, you have the Spirit of the Lord. Then what does that mean? How does that change my life? What are the results of that?

First, the more we allow the Holy Spirit to direct and control our life, He develops in us THE SPIRIT OF WISDOM. there is no true wisdom apart from the Lord. When you need wisdom in your life, you need the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit gives wisdom beyond our capacity or ability. The further an individual drifts away from the Lord, the more that person grieves the Holy Spirit. The more a person grieves the Holy Spirit, the more that individual loses wisdom. That is why good, saved people make some very foolish decisions sometimes. That is why they head down very dangerous paths. It is because they do not have the wisdom of God. They are convinced they are making the right decisions, but they have grieved the Holy Spirit of God, and in so doing, they have lost the spirit of wisdom.

Do you have some difficult things going on in your life? Do you have some heavy decisions to make? Are you confused about what direction is best? Brothers and sisters in Christ, you need the spirit of wisdom that only God can give. And God has given it only through the Holy Spirit. And God has given His Holy Spirit to you, to live in you, to direct you, to teach you, to protect you, and to give you wisdom. The more we submit to the Holy Spirit, the more wisdom we will have.
