BIBLE READING: I JOHN 1
1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
The subject of this book is the Word of God, which we find immediately in the first verse. Before we proceed, I want to point out some things we are told about the Word of God.
First, it is the ETERNAL WORD. It was “from the beginning”.
Second, it is the SPOKEN WORD. In verses 1, 3, and 5 we find this phrase, “we have heard”.
Third, it is the VISIBLE WORD. Verse three says that which “we have seen”.
Finally, it is the VITAL WORD. Verse one says that it is the Word “of life”
So verse three teaches that we declare the Word of God to others, and through that we have fellowship with each other based on that Word. And based on the Word of God, we find out that we can have Fellowship with God the Father and Jesus Christ the Son.
* 3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
Can you imagine that? You and I get to have fellowship with the Creator of the universe, the Savior of the world. The way we get to do that is through the Word of God. The more we get into the Word of God, the more Fellowship we are able to have with God. The Word of God is how we get to know Him. Through the Word is how we get to fellowship with Him. Through the Word we find how to please Him. When you first begin to date your future mate, you got to know them through conversation. The Word of God is God’s conversation to us. It is the “VITAL WORD” because the more we are in the Word, the more we fellowship with God. And The more we fellowship with God, the more life we have.
* John 1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
