BIBLE READING: I JOHN 2

1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

I love the Word of God. There is so much in every statement. More than meets the eye. The Bible demands that you slow down, calm down, focus, and pay attention to it as you read. When you do that, and the more you do that, the Word of God comes alive. This passage is a good example.

Notice the phrase “my little children”. God is writing to us through the pen of John. He is speaking of us when He says “my little children”.

We see first, GOD’S POSSESSION.
This two letter possessive pronoun “my” changes everything. It means we belong to God. We are His children, in His family, because Jesus made that available through His redemptive work on the cross.

* I Corinthians 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

We see second, GOD’S PROTECTION.
He calls us “little” children. All of our ages may very but as God’s children, we are all little in His eyes. This means God knows we need protected. We need protected from danger, we need protected from others, we need to take it from Satan, and we need protected from ourselves.

Third we see GOD’S PARENTING.
We are God’s little “children”. This means it is not just creator and His creation, It is not just the shepherd and His sheep. It is not just the savior and the saved. It is the Father and His children. That makes it very personal. It means there will be discipline. It means there will be love. It means there will be a home. It means there will be an inheritance.

Today be encouraged by the fact that you’re not just a person working a job, a husband, a wife, a parent, or a grandparent, or a child. You are one of God’s “little children”. And that makes all the difference in the world.
