I AM PERSUADED THAT HE IS ABLE:
TO SAVE ME FROM
Psalm 57:3 He shall send from heaven, and save me from the reproach of him that would swallow me up. Selah. God shall send forth his mercy and his truth.
“SAVE ME FROM”
We all need saving.
* We were born with the need to be saved from hell. Jesus died on the cross for our sins so that we would have the opportunity to be saved from hell by putting our faith in Jesus Christ.
* We need to be saved from ourselves. We are our own worst enemy. Without God’s intervention, we would make a mess of our lives.
* We need to be saved from temptation. Satan is powerful and shrewd, and he knows how to exploit our weaknesses. II Peter 2:9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations.
* We need to be saved from vengeful individuals. God knows how to protect us from the hatred and bitterness of others. Psalm 7:1 O LORD my God, in thee do I put my trust: save me from all them that persecute me, and deliver me. Psalm 18:2 The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer. Psalm 18:17 He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them which hated me: for they were too strong for me.
This is why David cries out to the most High. He is asking God to save him from “him that would swallow me up”. David knows that this individual, we assume King Saul, will stop at nothing. This word “reproach” in verse three means to defame, or to ruin one’s reputation. David believed not only that Saul was trying to kill him, but that Saul was trying to turn everyone against David. Even to the extreme of lying about David. You see, there is no way that David could track everything that was said against him in every situation. He would have no idea what had been said or who it would have been said to. People were going to think what people were going to think. People believe what people believe. So David cries out to God to be saved from a battle that he could not fight, nor win.
You and I will often face battles that would be impossible to win or even to fight. I am persuaded that God is able to save me from what people do or say. “SELAH”! Meditate on that.
