BIBLE READING: Habakkuk 2:5-14
“For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.” Habakkuk 2:14
Today, we continue to look at the message from the Lord. He shares the three of the five woes of the Babylonians. He is revealing to Habakkuk that the Babylonians will fall to their own corruption. This is a reminder that dishonesty, unjust works, and violence leads only to its own destruction. In some ways, we can see these characteristics in the world around us. If we are not careful that could discourage us. What I think is neat in this passage, through the warning of the woes, God gives hope to both Habakkuk and the reader. Verse 14 is the answer to the tragedy of the woes and fills our hearts with hope. God promises that one day the earth would be filled with the knowledge of the glory of God! Throughout scripture, we see similar portions making the same promise. This was not just for Habakkuk, but a hope we can cling to today. This is a promise that will be fulfilled in Revelation 21. God establishes a new heaven and earth so He can dwell with man. How wonderful that will be! Though not fully, this is something we already experience. God is with us and dwells with us because of the Holy Spirit. We are united with Christ and never alone. I do not know what you may be going through today. Do you ever feel overwhelmed or discouraged by the world with its woes and temptations? Praise the Lord we can cling to His promises and we are not alone. We can see His faithfulness of the past, rely on His strength for today, and cling to His promises for the future!
