I AM PERSUADED THAT HE IS ABLE:
TO GIVE US THINGS TO ENJOY
Ecclesiastes 3:12 I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice, and to do good in his life. 13 And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.
As Solomon had studied life, he concluded a few things. He seemed to believe that the things we tend to think are important end up not being as important as we thought. He also thought that what we usually don’t see as that important ends up being very important. As Solomon continues to try to analyze life, he comes up with four things that he had found to be important.
1. TO REJOICE
Solomon found that life is too short to not find things to be joyful about. It is important to enjoy life. It is important to see and notice the blessings of God, and to have joy because of it. Solomon indicates here that it is a choice that an individual makes. We choose to have joy. We choose to notice the blessings of God. We choose to look at the positives instead of the negatives. Having joy will bring good things into your life.
2. TO DO RIGHT
“To do good in his life.” Solomon had studied the entire spectrum of people’s lives and he noticed that one of the most important things to do was to simply do right. It’s a choice we must make every second of every day. When we are right on the inside, it’s amazing how many things become right on the outside. Even when wonderful things happen in our lives, if we are not doing right, we will not have joy. The Bible says that “out of the heart are the issues of life”.
3. TO RELAX
“Also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour.” We are so busy trying to get ahead in life, that we fail to enjoy life. We are trying so hard to get what we still want instead of enjoying what we already have. God has not given us the things that we have in our life just to make us want more. God has given us what we have for us to enjoy them. I encourage you today, enjoy what you have instead of obsessing about what you don’t have.
4. TO REALIZE
“It is the gift of God.” Everything that brings joy into our lives is something that God gave us. It all traces back to the generosity and goodness of God. You and I need to look at everything in our life as a gift from God. Our job, our children, our home, our vehicle, our friends, and even our church is a gift from God. We need to realize that.
