BIBLE READING: John 17
4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.
There you have it! The greatest accomplishment that any believer could hope to perform. Jesus had already shared that He came to do the will of His Father. In so doing, Jesus glorified God the Father. Even God glorifies God.
This is our purpose in life by the way. To bring glory to our Heavenly Father, and to finish whatever God has asked us to do according to His will. We make things so complicated. Our flesh gets in the way. Our will gets in the way. We over analyze, under commit, and confuse ourselves. We make following God complicated. We make simple childlike faith harder than it is. It cannot get any simpler: glorify God and obey Him. We do not have to “accomplish” anything, nor “make” anything happen. If we could, we might want the glory. We just try to live for God by faith every day and commit to do our best to follow however we feel God is leading us.
Paul said “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:”.
Paul never said He “won a good fight”. Paul just said he fought a good one. You and I do not have to win anything. We just need to determine to keep fighting, stay faithful, run our course, and finish it. Let God take care of the rest.
Today, ask God to enable you to glorify Him somehow, and just do what you know God has asked you to do. If you are a husband, His Word has told you what to do. If you are a father, His Word has told you what to do. If you are a church member, His Word has told you what to do. Don’t make it complicated, just do what you know to do.
