BIBLE READING: John 14
1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
Author James McConkey said this:
“Faith is the channel through which God’s power is poured out upon His children, and in taking us out of the attitude of faith, anxiety clogs the down flow of God’s power and blessing into our lives.“
Anything that hinders faith hinders the work that Christ can do in your life. We recently had an evangelist at our church named Dr. Harold Vaughn. He is going to be with again us soon. He made a statement while he was ministering to us some months ago that I have never forgotten: “Worry is emotional atheism“. As I came across the first verse of this chapter, it immediately made me think of that statement. I believe that Jesus is teaching this principle by an implied question. ‘Why in the world would your heart be troubled if you really believe in me?” That is a great question. If we believe that we can trust Jesus in our heart, then our emotions should follow that belief.
There is a song we used to sing when I was a kid, “Why Worry, When You Can Pray”. It went like this:
Why worry when you can pray,
Trust Jesus He’ll be your stay.
Don’t be a doubting Thomas,
Just remember what God has promised,
Why worry, worry, worry, worry, when you can pray?
“Worry is like a rocking chair; it will give you something to do, but it won’t get you anywhere.”
“Worry is pulling tomorrow’s clouds over today’s sunshine.”
“Worry is the interest paid on trouble before it comes due.”
