Galatians 5
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
One wonder that I have in life is how a plant can produce fruit. Somehow pollen from plants gets transferred into a flower. Through the process of time that flower produces fruit. I don’t understand how it all works, but it’s amazing. There is also another part that fascinates me. No matter how much work we put into the plant we cannot make it bear fruit. Some plants are very fruitful while others bear little or no fruit.
This passage tells us of the fruit of the Spirit. There is one word I want to deal with today. The word is “fruit.” The fruit grows on its own. Not because its forced. You cannot squeeze a tree and make fruit come out. Fruit is a natural process that comes from a healthy fruit tree. The same could be said about us. Spiritual fruit comes not because we add it to our lives. That would be like gluing an apple to an apple tree, it wouldn’t be natural. Spiritual fruit comes when our spiritual body is in the Holy Spirit’s control. All we can do is make ourselves ready for Him. We can make sure we have spiritual nourishment; we must have the weeds of sin pulled and be refreshed by the spirit of God. He makes the change in us. The analogy would be planting in a greenhouse. Plants will flourish if the conditions are right. The question I leave you with today is this, have you prepared your heart for the Holy Spirit to have an easy job bearing fruit in your life today?
