I AM PERSUADED THAT HE IS ABLE:

TO PUT A SONG IN MY MOUTH

Psalm 40:1 To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me and heard my cry. 2 He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. 3 And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.

In this passage, David went from waiting, to wishing, to walking, to worshiping.

In this passage, David went from slipping, to standing, to singing.

In this passage, David went from the cry, to the clay, to the cliff, to the choir

When the Lord delivered David, He didn’t just change David’s SITUATION and LOCATION, He changed David.

The Personal Man Was Transformed
David says that there is “a new song” in his mouth. The mouth can sing because the heart has been helped. When this Psalm began, David was not talking about singing but about crying. The word “cry” speaks of “a cry for help.” It speaks of “a loud, insistent cry based on fear and desperate need.” Now, David has been delivered and his shout of fear has been replaced by a song of joy! When the saint is delivered from his horrible pit and set upon that Rock, something changes inside. Where before there was bitterness, there in now boldness. Where there was darkness, there was now determination. Where there was hopelessness, there was now hope. This change in the heart produces a change in the attitude.

The Publican Was Transformed
When a person is transformed inwardly, they will always manifest it externally. David mentions two ways this took place in his life. David became a PRAISING man.
“In my mouth, even praise”. David wants to praise the Lord for what the Lord has done for him. The word “new” means “fresh.” David had always had a reason to praise the Lord, but now he has a fresh and new reason to do so. He has experienced a unique manifestation of the grace and work of God in his life, and he wants to praise the Lord because of it. David also became a PROCLAIMING man, “many shall see it”. David tells us that he is going to behave in such a manner that all those around him are going to know what God has done in his life. He is not going to keep his blessings bottled up on the inside, but he is going to share them with a lost world that needs to meet the God that delivers from the horrible pit. God puts a new song in our mouth so that others can hear it. Why don’t we go “Sing” a little bit today?
