BIBLE READING: I Samuel 13
“But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the LORD hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the LORD hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the LORD commanded thee.”
I Samuel 13:14
Within just a few years, Saul revealed his true character as king. Often reading this chapter I thought it was just impatience that caused Saul the royal dynasty, but it was no respect and disobedience to God. Saul was in a high-pressure situation with the people scattered and the Philistines breathing down their necks. In this, Saul revealed His true character. Samuel was to be the only one to make the sacrifice. With Saul rushing to make the sacrifice, he dishonored his position to do that. Saul failed the test before him. Samuel came disappointed and said God would eventually choose one who be a man after His heart. We can be tempted to do the right thing at the wrong time or way. It can be so hard to wait and be patient, but God does this to strengthen our faith. We will see in the chapters to come that is the difference between Saul and a man after God’s own heart. Where Saul cut corners to appear to be spiritual while his heart was far from God. In the long run it is better to wait and trust in the Lord’s timing. This is both obedient and strengthens our faith in Him. Just remember today to stay faithful to God’s guiding hand in His timing.
