Proverbs 1:3 To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;
It is important to know healthy food exists. It is also important to be able to recognize healthy food. But while both of these are good things to know, they will not help you if you are unwilling to eat them. Eating a healthy diet can change the way you look, feel, and even the way you think.
This same principle applies to wisdom. We can know what wisdom is, and where to find it. However, it will only be beneficial if we receive it. Receiving it is not just simply hearing someone tell us good things. Receiving it is more than reading a chapter of Proverbs. Receiving wisdom is taking the Word, meditating on its meaning, and applying it to your life.
Receiving wisdom mirrors receiving salvation. When we receive Christ as our Savior there are several conditions that must be met. We must believe that Jesus is the Son of God, He died to pay for our sins, and rose again. We must also repent and put our faith entirely on Jesus. In order to receive wisdom we must do several things. 1. Hear- Proverbs 4:1 Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding. A big part of receiving wisdom is listening for it. 2. Fear the Lord- Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. Pastor Daniel recently said that this phrase “fear the Lord” doesn’t mean be afraid of God. It means be afraid to hurt God. Our lifestyle has an impact on if we obtain or retain wisdom. 3. Lastly, we are to seek it out as for treasure. Proverbs 8:11 For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it. Wisdom has great value. We are to be seeking for it daily. I believe as we have new grace available each day, we have the wisdom we need for each day available if we only seek for it. I want to encourage you today to not only listen for wisdom but to receive it today.
