I AM PERSUADED THAT HE IS ABLE:

TO RULE

II CHRONICLES 20:6 And said, O LORD God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee?

These are some very interesting questions. God is basically being asked if God is who He said He was, and if God could do what God said He could do. If God is and can, then there would be no question about His ability to rule.

First, we see the PAST.

“God of our fathers”. God has been faithful to the past generations. I watched as God was faithful to my parent’s week after week as they ministered full time in evangelism. God payed bills, filled gas tanks, and put food on the table. My mother is in heaven now, but God is still faithful to my dad. God is still paying bills, putting gas in the tank, and putting food on the table. Even though older age is approaching, and the body is weaker, God still does His job. I have seen God be the “God of my father”.

Second, we see His PLACE.

“God in Heaven”. Heaven is the greatest kingdom. If God rules over heaven, surely, He can reign over any other kingdom. God is above us, over us, and around us.

Third we see His POSITION.

God rules “over all the kingdoms”. This word “rules” here means to have dominion over. That is God’s position: He is “over”. You say, “over what?”. My answer is, “over everyone and everything”. Whenever you or I begin to feel or think that we are in control, God will remind us that He is “over” us. That is not His position because we put Him there, that is His position because God put Himself there.

Fourth we see His POWER.

“In thine hand is there not power and might?” This means that God holds power and victory in His hand. God literally owns power. He has the corner on the market. You cannot name one person that has more power than God. You cannot name one battle that God has ever fought that He did not win. In fact, there has never been a battle that God even had to even fight to win. God wins without even having to fight. God has that much power. And then sometimes one of us knuckle heads think that we can fight God and win. Yeah right!

Last, we see His PREEMINENCE.

“None is able to withstand thee.” “None” means none. Even you and me. Yes, God is able to rule over all the kingdoms of the heathen, and the earth. But even more important, God is able to rule over me and you. He ruled over past generations, He rules in Heaven, He rules over every kingdom on earth, He owns power and victory, and you better believe God can rule over us. He is King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
