I AM PERSUADED THAT HE IS ABLE:

TO BE MY SONG (part 4)

II SAMUEL 22:1 And David spake unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD had delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul

“  33 God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect.”

This means God is able to “SALVAGE”. Not everything in life is perfect. Not everything we do in life is perfect. Not every plan is perfect, not every outcome is perfect, and not every decision is perfect. Nothing about us is perfect, but everything about God is perfect. Everything God does is perfect. Somehow God can take our imperfections and make something perfect out of it. The Hebrew word here for “perfect” means complete, or entire. That means when all is said and done, God can make our imperfect way “perfect”. That is why just a few verses earlier, David says, “31 As for God, his way is perfect;”.

“ 34 He maketh my feet like hinds’ feet: and setteth me upon my high places.”

This means that God is able to help us “SOAR” above. It sure is easy to get bogged down with things day to day. If we are not careful, we can tend to live under our circumstances, under the pressures, and under the trials. David says that God set him up on “high places”. How wonderful it is that God can get us up above our trials. We can take the high road. We can live above negative people. We can live above the discouragement. God can help get us out of being stuck in the valley and set us up on a high place.

This has been a pretty good song. Chapter twenty-two has more in it than I can take the time to share. We better move on to other passages. As David did in this chapter, maybe we should write some things down as a testimony of what a God has done for us. God has given us a “new song”. Maybe that “new song” should include some of the great things God has done for us. We do not have to put them in print or in a hymn book, but it might be good to say to God in our quiet time with Him. There is one more little part to David’s song that I want us to look at as we close this chapter.

“ 36 … thy gentleness hath made me great.”

Can you just take a second to stop and take that statement in. Just pause and ponder; “The gentleness of God”. David is saying that if there was anything great in his life, it was only because of the gentleness of God. Despite David’s sin and stubbornness, God was gentle with him. Our God is a loving Father. He is a gentle Shepherd. I think of the song:

In shady, green pastures, so rich and so sweet

God leads His dear children along

Where the water’s cool flow bathes the weary one’s feet

God leads His dear children along

Some through the waters, some through the flood

Some through the fire, but all through the blood

Some through great sorrow, but God gives a song

In the night season and all the day long
