Today’s Reading

Romans 8:6 KJV
6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

Whatever controls your mind will control your entire life. This makes your mind extremely important. If you allow your mind to focus on the desires of your flesh, you will find nothing but misery in this life. The desires of the flesh are also known as your feelings. Now, feelings come and go, and they can be extremely unreliable. On an average day, I have feelings that tell me to do terrible things like running the guy off the road who cut me off in traffic, karate chopping that guy who won’t stop talking in the throat, or wanting to cut in line in front of everyone at the grocery store because I am in a rush. (Don’t judge me.) Our feelings are not what our minds are meant to be focused on, because they change every day depending on what is going on in our lives. If your mind is constantly focused on how you feel, then you will always fall short of the life God has planned for you. God doesn’t want you to live a life that is like a boat tossed around in the middle of a storm, because you are focused on your feelings. God wants you to have a life built on a firm foundation that will never fail, a foundation that is built on being led by the Holy Spirit. When you become a Christian, not only are your sins forgiven, but God’s Spirit dwells inside you. When you are in need of guidance, look to the Holy Spirit. When you are lonely, lean on the Holy Spirit. When you are depressed, let the Holy Spirit’s presence comfort you. You might say, “That’s nice, but how do I hear from the Holy Spirit?” I would encourage you to take time to listen to Him in secluded silence. Get away from your phone, TV, and people, then ask God to speak to you. I guarantee you that the Spirit will speak to you in some way, and if He doesn’t speak to you, then that is when you need to just “be still” and enjoy the comfort of His presence. He always guides you where you need to go, and He comforts you when you need Him most. Your mind is meant to focus on what the Holy Spirit speaks to you, rather than your feelings.

Today, I want you to practice keeping your feelings in check. Don’t let them rule over you. Let the Holy Spirit’s voice be the most listened to voice in your mind.
