BIBLE READING JOHN 6
John 6:5-6
When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat? 6And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do.
This is one of the most familiar stories in the Bible. The lad gives Jesus 5 loaves and 2 small fishes and over 5,000 people are fed. The general observation is that God can do much with a little. But can we look a little deeper?
Verses 5-6 give us an insight to Christ’s thinking. This was a test. With an impossible task would Phillip try to accomplish it with his own reasoning and might or would he rely on God? Phillip failed the test. He immediately thought, we don’t have enough money to do this. It’s Impossible.
In our lives how many times does God ask us to do something? We look at our resources and abilities and say “it’s impossible. Sorry God there’s no way I can do that.” There may be truth in saying I don’t have the means to do something. We can’t do it on our own, but often we look past the great big God who is right there with us.
We cannot accomplish impossible tasks but God can. Only our lack of faith limits what God can do. He wants to work through us. We face these decissions I think our prayer should be “God I can’t do this, but I know you can. Help me to trust you completely so that you can accomplish your plan through me.” If we learn this simple principle, the impact in our spiritual lives, and our influence on others would be massive.
