I AM PERSUADED THAT HE IS ABLE:

TO HELP ME BE A GODLY FATHER (part 5)

Proverbs 4:20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. 21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. 22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. 23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. 24 Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee. 25 Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.26 Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.

Fathers, we need God’s help. It is not easy being a father, but God will hold us accountable, so it is our responsibility, our task, and our privilege. This entire chapter is helpful to us fathers, not just the ones we have dealt with. As we close for now with our devotions dedicated to dads, these verses give us some things we need to really encourage, teach, and train our children on:

1. KEEP THY HEART
Out of the heart are the “issues of life”. We must encourage and teach our children how important it is to keep their hearts right. This is the difference maker.

2. A FROWARD MOUTH
If our children can learn to control their mouths and their words, could you imagine how much turmoil, heartache, and conflict they could avoid.
* James 3:5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!

3. THINE EYES
O be careful little eyes what you see? You and I am may not always be able to control what we see, but we can control what we look at. With all the access to evil images and material in our day, do not think as a parent that you can control everything they see. The only hope is to teach them to control what they look at.

4. THY WAYS
“Ponder the path of thy feet”. We all must make the tough choices. We all must decide the direction we are going to go. Teach your children that they cannot avoid the choice. They must choose. To not make the choice to follow the Lord, they have then already chosen to rebel. Teach, train, and pray for your children to “establish” their ways. I am persuaded that God is able to help me be a Godly father!
