Galatians 5
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
When you were in school did you ever sit down in class and hear the teacher say, “it’s time for a pop quiz?” As I was not the most diligent student, those words always stuck fear into my heart. Sadly, I often didn’t do great when they were presented. This passage gives us a spiritual pop quiz. Today I want to talk about the word “is” from verse 22.
The word “is” teaches us what the fruit of the spirit is at this precise moment. It doesn’t tell us it is a revolving list, not does it tell us it can be more or less. The fruit of the spirit is a package deal. It is like ordering numerous small items from Amazon, but they will only ship it if they are shipped in the same package. The point I’m trying to make is this, we either have all the fruit of the spirit or none. It’s all or nothing. If not, we will produce the fruit of the flesh. If we are yielded to the Holy Spirt we will show all these “fruits.” Today I leave you with this one question, are you bearing the fruit of the spirit at this moment? We all can possess the fruit of the Spirit today, but it takes a conscious choice to yield to the Spirt of God. I encourage you to make that choice today!
