Proverbs 3:1-2

1 My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:  2 For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.

Verse 1 talks about having our heart keep God’s commandments. God wants our hearts to willingly obey Him. He isn’t looking for just outward conformity. Verse 2 tells us of some benefits of keeping God’s commandments with our heart.
1. Length of days
It may seem like length of days, and a long life are repeating the same thought, but there is a difference. Length of days is referencing productivity. It’s telling you that your days will be productive when our heart keeps God’s commandments. Do you desire at the end of a day to feel like you accomplished something? This comes from obeying God.
2. Long life
We have no idea of knowing our time here on Earth, yet God does. He knows the precise second we will enter eternity. He tells us when we obey Him with our heart, He gives us a long life. I don’t know if He extends the time He allotted for us or not. I do know, that when we live according to His Word, we miss out on many harmful things that could cause our life to end early.
3. Peace
Of the three things God gives us I believe this is the most significant. Unsaved individuals can live long, and be productive, but only God gives peace. The Bible says the peace of God passes all understanding. No matter what is going in your life, God offers us peace. Peace on the inside can get us through difficult times and allows us to enjoy prosperous times.
God has every right to expect us to obey Him, yet He cares enough for us to reward us when we do. He’s such a good God to us!
