BIBLE READING: HEBREWS 8
1 Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;
2 A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.
3 For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer.
4 For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law:
6 But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.
7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second.
“This is the sum”. This is the bottom line. Of all the deep doctrine given in this book, the unknown author decides to sum it all up. The deducted synopsis; “We have such an high priest”. Our high priest is not just allowed to go into the Holy of holies, our High Priest is Holy, and lives in the holiest of all holy places, on the right hand of the throne of God the father. Let me tell you about our High Priest, Jesus Christ.
Verse three and four describe how that our high priest is different than any other priest. 1.) Verse six says that He obtained a more excellent ministry. Not just an excellent ministry, but a more excellent ministry. That’s why when we are in Christ we have not just life but life more abundant.
2.) He is the mediator of a better covenant. He went to God the Father on our behalf and became the mediator between us, and God the father. The agreement they came upon was far better for us than the covenant we had before.
3.) The covenant that Jesus mediated was established upon better promises.
Everything about Jesus is better. Everything about Jesus‘s plans are better. everything Jesus touches times better. Everyone that follows Jesus ends up in a better place. Jesus is the “better hope”, the better “mediator”, for a better covenant, a more excellent ministry, established upon better promises.
Let me “sum” it all up. Jesus is better, Jesus makes things better, and Jesus makes us better, and Jesus has promised us a better future. I hope you have a better day.
