BIBLE READING: Nehemiah 2:11-18
“Then I told them of the hand of my God which was good upon me; as also the king’s words that he had spoken unto me. And they said, Let us rise up and build. So they strengthened their hands for this good work.”
Nehemiah 2:18
As Nehemiah enters the city and takes a tour around the remnants of the wall, he doesn’t tell anyone that the Lord and the King had sent him to build the wall. What is left of the wall is burnt, ruined, and a disaster. I’m sure this could have been overwhelming or even discouraging seeing a dying city and a failing wall that use to be a great city which many people across the world would come to see. A city that pointed others to God because of Solomon’s temple. To see something that was once so great fall and now have the job to rebuild probably seemed impossible.
Many times, there might be a situation or something in our life that seems impossible to come back from. You may look at it and think of how great it use to be, but now is fallen because of a failure. Nehemiah could have been too overwhelmed and just have given up before the job even started. We often get discouraged and overwhelmed of the problem. Now it has been made right and the time comes to rebuild. Whether it’s a relationship or a personal struggle, we have to realize that our solution is not within ourselves to rebuild.
What is so encouraging about this passage is Nehemiah’s meeting with the leaders of Jerusalem. He shares the plan, and then tells of God’s mighty hand guiding them to build this wall! That the Lord was behind them and will give them the strength. At the end of the verse, the leaders together praised the Lord and joined to rebuild the wall.
I don’t know what you may be going through today, but the important fact is God does! The encouraging fact is we do not have go through anything alone. So rely on the Lords strength and His promises today.
