I AM PERSUADED THAT HE IS ABLE:

TO GIVE AN UNSPEAKABLE GIFT

II CORINTHIANS 9:15 Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.

In this wonderful verse, the word “UNSPEAKABLE” is the Greek word “an-ek-Ee-aygotos”. This Greek word literally means “indescribable, not able to fully explain”. This statement is so true. There is no way to try to explain, describe, or define what God has given to us. Of course, the gift that God gave us was His only Son, Jesus Christ. I have heard many preachers, speakers, and singers try to describe God’s perfect gift. Over the years, we all have made efforts to explain it. Here are the reasons I have been taught over the years. What makes God’s gift so indescribable?

1. WE WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND HOW MUCH HIS GIFT COSTS
It cost God the Father His only Son. God had to turn His back on Jesus because of the sin that Jesus took upon Himself. It was my sin, and it was your sin. God had to watch His only Son go through all the suffering and sacrifice. It cost Jesus everything. He had to feel sin for the first time, He had to die, He had to be shamed publicly, and He had to suffer more than anyone in history has ever suffered. The gift of salvation cost more than we can comprehend.

2. WE WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND HOW MUCH HIS GIFT IS WORTH
Only those that are burning and suffering in Hell right now could really know how much this gift is worth. If we are saved, we will never feel and experience Hell. How much would a ticket out of Hell be worth. It is worth so much, that money could never purchase it.

3. WE WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND WHAT CHRIST WENT THROUGH TO PURCHASE
THIS GIFT
Could you imagine leaving a perfect environment for sinful sin cursed earth? Could you and I ever imagine the physical suffering that Jesus faced on the cross? Could you imagine the shame that Holy, pure Jesus faced as he was hung naked in front of all those people? Could you and I ever understand what it was like for Jesus to feel sin for the first time, let alone all our sin? No, we could never understand.

4. WE WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND HOW UNDESERVING WE ARE OF THIS GIFT
We will probably never really understand how rotten and sinful we are. You have to admit, we naturally think pretty highly of ourselves. I always think of these verses in Job:

• Job 42:5 I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee. 6 Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.
If we could properly see how sinful we really are, we would see salvation in a different light. If we really realized how much we do not deserve His love or forgiveness, we would serve Christ in a different way.

V. WE WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND WHAT ALL COMES WITH THIS GIFT
This is what verse eight of this passage says:
• 8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

Did you hear that? He says, “All grace”, “All sufficiency”, “All things”, “may abound”. As if Christ has not done more than we deserve already, He promises this. I do not know about you, but I believe there is no way to ever describe the gift of Christ.
