I AM PERSUADED THAT HE IS ABLE:

TO QUENCH YOUR THIRST (part 3)

John 4:28 The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,
Jhn 4:29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?

What an act of faith. She “left her waterpot”. Why would she need it after this? She had found someone that would quench her thirst forever. She had found living water. She had found the Messiah. You see, temporary water fills a water pot, but everlasting water fills us. We are the container that Christ fills.

Forget about this temporary stuff. She had more important things to do. She heads into the city to go tell everyone about Jesus. Oh if only we would do that. If only we were that excited. If only we would leave unimportant things behind to go tell others about Christ. If only we were that convinced.

This story illustrates the growth of the soul in the knowledge of Christ. This lady went from thirsty to thankful. She went from searching, to skeptical, to satisfied. Notice if you will the gradual change in this lady’s attitude toward Christ by the way she refers to Him:

1) “Jew” she says in verse nine with sneer on her lips (contention)

2) “Sir” she says in verse eleven with new respect beginning to appear (courtesy)

3) “Prophet” she says in verse nineteen as His words pierced her soul (conviction)

4) “Messiah” she says in verse twenty-five (connection)

5) “Christ” she says in verse twenty-nine as she gives her testimony back home
(certainty)

She went from contention, to courtesy, to conviction, to connection, to finally certainty. This lady also went from wandering, to witnessing. Notice this verse:

* John 4:39 And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did.

Has Christ quenched your thirst? Has Jesus saved your soul? Go and tell someone about it. Leave your water pot and go!
