1 Corinthians 2:9-11
For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things.
To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ;
Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.
In competitive sports people are always looking for a way to get an advantage. Runners look for lighter shoes, swimmers look for clothing to reduces drag, in many sports athletes even take supplements to help them perform better than others.
This passage tells us that Satan looks for ways to get an advantage in our lives. In Christ we have the ability to defeat Satan every day. Vs 14 says, “Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.” Because Satan hates to loose to Christ found a way to take advantage of us. This weakness in unforgiveness.
Unforgiveness does several thinks that impact our Christian walk.
1. Unforgiveness keeps us from a close walk with God
Matthew 6:15 – But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
As believers God forgave us from all our sin, but unforgiveness towards others keeps us from fellowship with God.
2. Unforgiveness keeps us distant from that person
Leviticus 19:17 Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him.
3. Unforgiveness makes us think we are the judge
Leviticus 19 :18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.
Unforgiveness is pride. Pride says, “how could they have done that to me!” When we allow pride to take root, Satan gets a stronghold in our lives. Strongholds make us loose the joy we are meant to have in Christ.
I encourage you, if you have unforgiveness in your heart toward someone today, forgive and do your best to forget.
