I AM PERSUADED THAT HE IS ABLE

TO GET THE LAST LAUGH

Psalm 2:1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed…..4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.

Ungodly, unbelieving people are often bold in their unbelief. They make fun of God, and make light of those who do believe in God. We see it all the time in our media and in studio movies. They get a big laugh at God’s expense. They feel like they have all the momentum. It is almost a “rage” as stated in verse one. The problem is that it is just an illusion. It is all in their imagination. It is just in their mind. Over time, many unbelievers have became our leaders. They do not fear God. They do not follow God’s Word. In fact, as this passage describes, they often set themselves against God. They pass laws that do, or allow those things, that are completely against what the Word of God teaches.

In our day and time it has gotten even worse. They are blatantly against God, and against His followers. They publicly denounce the Bible, and even boldly challenge God. The Bible says that “He that sitteth in the Heavens shall laugh”. This does not mean that God takes it lightly when people oppose Him, or especially when they persecute God’s children. It means that God laughs when they “challenge” God. It is not a joke that people are going to Hell. It is no joke that Christians are being persecuted. It is no joke that people refuse to believe in a real, living God. But it is a joke when they think they can challenge the almighty God. They might believe that illusion, but the thought that they could even think that they could challenge God makes God laugh.

It can be discouraging watching the news. It can be discouraging listening to our media. If you and I are not careful, we can begin to think that we are on the defensive. We can think we are on the losing side. We can think that the whole world laughs at us. Let me remind you today that we are not only on the winning side, our side has already won. The moment Jesus raised out of that tomb, we won. Do not be discouraged today because our leaders are laughing at God. Be encouraged today that God will literally get the “last laugh”.
