Romans 1 9-11
For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers;
Making request, if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come unto you.
For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established;
As a father one of my favorite times in parenting is when my son or daughter learns to walk. Yes, it means that soon enough I won’t have to carry them everywhere we go. But it is also a big milestone in their development. It is a marker of their progression toward adulthood. Learning to riding a bike, loosing a tooth, driving a car are other examples of this development.
As believers there are markers that show spiritual growth. Salvation is the beginning. Reading our Bible and praying consistently are others. But this passage tells us of another marker. This marker is desiring spiritual fruit in others.
When children grow into adulthood, they learn life isn’t all about themselves. They learn to take on responsibilities for others. Growth as believers is the same. We should all have a desire to have spiritual fruit in others. Paul says, “For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift.” Paul’s desire was to have a part in God establishing their faith.
Every believer should be striving to find that place that God has for us to minister to others. Pastoring a congregation is the call for some, pouring the Bible into grandchildren is the call for others, even reaching out to nurses or doctors while in the hospital can be the place. The important thing is that we open our eyes to the need and with Gods help strive to help.
If you don’t know where your place to minister is, I encourage you to pray and ask God to lead you. If you know where God has led you, I encourage you to without ceasing keep them in your prayers.
