Bible Reading: Revelation 10
Revelation 10:1-7
1 And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire:
2 And he had in his hand a little book open: and he set his right foot upon the sea, and his left foot on the earth,
3 And cried with a loud voice, as when a lion roareth: and when he had cried, seven thunders uttered their voices.
4 And when the seven thunders had uttered their voices, I was about to write: and I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered, and write them not.
5 And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven,
6 And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer:
7 But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets.
This passage takes a break from the horror and despair on earth during the Tribulation. It directs us to the Savoir. The mighty angel coming from heaven is none other than Jesus Christ. It tells us what He does.
1. He had a book- this book represents Jesus’s ownership of the earth. At this point all the seal judgements are finished. He is the only one worthy to have the book open fully. It would be like the most classified document today that only the President can look at. Jesus is claiming the world is His.
2. He cries- not a whiny wimpy cry, he cries as when a lion roars. This will strike fear into all those who oppose Christ on earth. He is the Lion of the tribe of Judah making his claim as ruler.
The Response- Seven thunders happened- This is the response from Satan and the world. Jesus tells John not to write what they say, it’s not important.
4. He says “that there should be time no longer.” Does this mean time stopped? No. There are 12 more chapters of what is to come. It is saying this time is almost over. The space between judgements is almost gone. The chance for people to repent is almost gone.
So how does this apply to me today?
As believers we already understand that Jesus owns the world. If He owns and runs the world and everything in it, what do we have need of? What do we have to worry about? Jesus said, Philippians 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Let’s praise the Lord that He’s got everything under control.
