I AM PERSUADED THAT HE IS ABLE:

TO BE TRUSTWORTHY (part 3)

Isaiah 31:1 Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD! ………
3 Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses flesh, and not spirit. When the LORD shall stretch out his hand, both he that helpeth shall fall, and he that is holpen shall fall down, and they all shall fail together.

The whole problem in this passage began when these individuals took their eyes off of the Lord. “They look not unto the Holy One of Israel.” That is where it always starts with us. We get our eyes on our problems instead of the Lord. We focus on our stresses instead of our Savior. We become so consumed with our conflicts in life, that we begin to think that we need to fix them. Then, when we realize that we can’t, we think other people or things can help us. And then things spiral down from there, we fail, then we think that people have failed us, and then we think God has failed us because we have ended up in a mess. It all starts with taking our eyes off of Jesus.

Verse three tells us that when it is all said and done, that the things we trusted in will fail, and those of us that trusted in other things will fall also. “Both he that helpeth shall fall, and he that is holpen shall fall down, and they all shall fail together.” When you and I trust in other things or other people for our help, they and us are doomed to fail.

God is trustworthy. He can help! I encourage you today to get your eyes back on Jesus. I encourage you to refocus upon Him. That is where we can begin to head the wrong direction. It is a battle between the flesh and the Spirit. Do not count on the flesh. Put your eyes on Christ. I am always reminded of this passage:

* Philippians 3:3 For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh. 4 Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more:
* 7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.
