I AM PERSUADED THAT HE IS ABLE:

TO GIVE US THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD (part 4)

Isaiah 11:1 And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: 2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD

We have enjoyed looking at these verses about the Spirit of the Lord. It is helpful to understand what should be appearing in our life as evidence that we are submitting to the leadership of the Holy Spirit. You might say, ‘the proof will be in the pudding’. (If you’ve never heard that phrase then that made no sense to you.)

The Holy Spirit, if submitted to, will give us THE SPIRIT OF WISDOM, THE SPIRIT OF UNDERSTANDING, THE SPIRIT OF COUNSEL, and THE SPIRIT OF MIGHT.

We now come to THE SPIRIT OF KNOWLEDGE. This Hebrew word for knowledge in its root form literally means to be able to recognize, to be aware. It describes the ability to see and understand some things that others cannot see. It means that you will see beyond the surface, beyond the obvious. It is a knowledge that only the Holy Spirit can give. It means that when most others are fooled by something, and naive about dangers that are hidden below the surface, you can see through that. The further you get from the Holy Spirit’s leading, the more gullible you become.

That is why so many Christians today are fooled by trends, by modern philosophy, and humanistic propaganda. They just cannot see through it. Satan brainwashes us while we are sitting in a church pew. God deals with this in His Word:

* II Timothy 4: 1 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; 2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

The SPIRIT OF KNOWLEDGE will see through things that seem to capture others. I do not know about you, but I want that. I need that. Ask the Holy Spirit today to give you the spirit of knowledge. In our day and time, Christians need it more, but seem to have it less.
