Bible reading Romans 12
Romans 12:1-2 KJV
[1] I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. [2] And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
We’ve looked at giving God our body, giving God our mind, and now we come to the third thing Paul said we need to give to God in order to have the right kind of relationship with Him. Number three we need to give God our will. Giving God our body and giving God our will may seem the same but they are different. Often times we can obey God (giving Him our body) but that doesn’t mean he has our will necessarily. One commentator put it this way for us “your mind controls your body, and your will controls your mind. Many people think they can control their will by using their willpower, but they usually fail.” Jesus surrendered His will to the Father through prayer “not my will, but thine be done” we must pray about everything, and then let God have His will in everything.
If I could paint a picture of what these three things look like as we put them to use in our life it would look like this; we begin each day with surrendering our body to the Lord. Then I spend time with Him in His Word, and let Him transform and renew my mind. Then I pray and yield to His will for that day. This is the way we have can have the right kind of relationship with God. We’ll look at how that affects our other relationships next time.
