3 And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow;
4 And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up:
5 Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth:
6 And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.
7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them:
8 But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.
9 Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.

We know the parable. We are to sow the seed and whether or not there is growth or not depends on the type of ground that the seed falls on. When we sow the seed of God’s Word, that is why sometimes there are individuals that grow and do well, and then other individuals that hear the same thing and never really grow. When the heart is fertile, the seed can grow. When the heart is hardened, the seed cannot.

I want us to briefly look at verse eight. Here we are told about the “good ground”. Good ground brings forth fruit. It is interesting to me that even when good ground grows fruit, we are told that some grows more fruit than others. He says, “some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold”. I do not know why it is that some people bear more fruit than others. Not everybody is going to do the same thing. Not everyone will grow the same way. Not everyone will bear as much fruit as others. I guess each of us today need to consider, how much fruit are we going to bear. Are we going to be the thirtyfold the sixtyfold, or the hundredfold type of Christian? I think each of us need to make sure that we are the “good ground” type of Christian, but we also need to try to be as fruitful as possible. I believe every Christian should bear fruit, but there are just some that have decided to bear as much fruit as possible. May we be that kind of person today. Not everybody is going to be a hundredfold type of follower, but some need to be.

“Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.”
