I AM PERSUADED THAT HE IS ABLE:
TO DO WHAT HE SAID HE WOULD DO
Numbers 23:19 “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it?”
General Douglas MacArthur famously said, “I shall return”; and return he did. However, Muhammad Ali also said that he would never be defeated, and defeated he was. In the 2007-2008 NFL season, the Pittsburgh Steelers had a shot at the undefeated Patriots in week 13. Before the game, Pittsburgh defensive back Anthony Smith made this claim to the media. “We’re going to win,” Smith said. “Yeah, I can guarantee a win.” They dropped the game, 34-13, and Smith never lived down the embarrassment of being so wrong, so early in his career.
My point is that when it comes to us humans, we sometimes do what we say we will do, and sometimes we don’t. Sometimes we make guarantees, promises, and claims that we follow through on. Sometimes, we don’t. We may have good intentions, good motives, and maybe even a good plan. But there are always things that are out of our control. So our claims, promises, and guarantees are only as strong as our ability.
We are told here in this verse that whatever God says He will do, He will do. If He said it, He will follow through on it. If He claimed it, He can. If He guaranteed it, He’s got it. If He promised it, He has a plan. He is only limited by His ability. And His ability has no limits.
If God said He will never leave us nor for sake us, then He won’t. If God said His grace is sufficient, then it is. If God promised in John chapter 6 “him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out”, then He won’t. There are thousands of promises that God has made in His word. I can’t give them all at this moment, although we will be dealing with many of them in upcoming days.
My point is that if God said it, you can count on it, take it to the bank, write it in stone, hang it on the wall, and consider it a binding agreement. No need to doubt, question, or be skeptical. I encourage you to get a hold of some of the promises God has made to you in His Word, and hold onto them. Write them down, memorize them, post them at different places in your car or home. Teach them to your kids, highlight them in your Bible, and depend on them every day.
I AM PERSUADED THAT GOD WILL DO WHAT HE SAID HE WILL DO!
